WEB DESIGN LONDON

What a properly built website does for a London business

In London, your website is often the first thing a customer judges you on. It has about three seconds to make the right impression.

Think about how you choose a business yourself. You search, you click, and within moments you have decided whether a company looks trustworthy or not. Your customers do exactly the same to you. In a city as competitive as London, where the business next door has probably invested in a sharp, modern site, an old or clunky website quietly costs you work you never even hear about. People simply click away and pick someone else.

A good website earns its keep in three ways. It makes you look credible, so a first-time visitor trusts you enough to get in touch. It loads fast and works properly on a phone, where most of your visitors now are. And it guides people towards doing something useful, whether that is calling you, booking, buying or filling in a form. A site that only looks pretty but does none of that is a brochure. A site built to convert is a tool that brings you business.

Speed is not a nice-to-have. Google uses how fast your pages load as a ranking signal, so a slow site is harder to find in the first place. And once someone does land on it, every extra second of loading pushes more of them to leave before they have seen a word. London customers have short patience and plenty of other options. A fast site keeps them, and a slow one hands them to a competitor.

This is why we hand-code every website rather than assembling it from a page builder or a bought theme. A template carries a lot of weight it does not need, which slows the site down, and it forces your business into a shape someone else designed. Building to your brief means a faster, cleaner site that looks like you and not like a thousand others, and it performs better in search because of it.

HOW WE BUILD

What goes into a SearchSoda website

The same standard on every build, from a five-page site to a full online store.

Hand-coded, not a template

We do not use page builders or off-the-shelf themes. Every site is built to your brief, which keeps it fast, keeps it free of the clutter templates drag along, and lets us design around your business rather than forcing your business into a layout someone else made.

Mobile-first design

Most of your visitors are on a phone, so that is where we start. Your site is designed to look right and work smoothly on a small screen first, then scaled up for tablets and desktops. Nothing broken, nothing cramped, nothing you have to pinch and zoom to read.

Speed and Core Web Vitals

We build to load quickly and to pass Google's Core Web Vitals, the checks it uses to measure real-world speed and stability. That means clean code, optimised images and no heavy scripts running for no reason. A fast site ranks better and keeps more of the people who arrive on it.

SEO built in from the start

Search visibility is far easier to build when the foundations are right, so we handle them during the build, not as an afterthought. Clean page structure, sensible URLs, proper headings, schema markup and fast loading are all part of every site. Your website launches ready to be found, not needing a rescue later.

Designed to convert

A website should do a job, not just sit there. We design each page around the action you want a visitor to take, with clear calls to action, easy contact and a path that leads people towards getting in touch or buying. Good looks and good results are not the same thing, and we build for both.

Easy to manage, and yours to run

On our larger builds we can add a content management system so you can update text, images and pages yourself without touching code. Your domain, your content and your accounts always stay in your name. The website itself is licensed to you for your business, so it is yours to run and host wherever you like, while the code, design and CMS are for that one business rather than for reuse on another. If we ever go our separate ways, you are never locked out of your own site.

Free brief

We talk through your business, your customers, your goals and what the site needs to do for you commercially. No design starts until we both know what a win looks like.

02

Fixed quote

A written quote with a fixed price, a fixed timeline and a clear scope. No hourly rates, no scope-creep charges, no nasty surprise when the invoice lands.

03

Design and build

We design, build and test, and you review at the key stages. Speed, mobile performance and SEO foundations go in from the start, never bolted on at the end.

04

Launch and handover

We launch the site, connect Google Analytics and Search Console, submit it to Google and walk you through everything. Ongoing help is there through our care plans if you want it.

BEFORE YOU HIRE

How to choose a web designer in London

A website is a real investment, and the wrong choice is expensive to undo. London has everything from £99 template mills to agencies charging six figures, so a few questions will help you find the right fit and avoid the traps. This is the advice we would give a friend before they signed anything.

The most important question is the simplest: what do you actually get to keep? Some designers build your site on a platform only they control, or keep it on their own hosting, so you can never move it without starting over. Others charge a fee for every small change because you have no way to edit it yourself. Make sure you will keep your domain and your content, that your site is yours to run and host where you like, and that you are never locked out of it.

Then ask how the site is built. A cheap template can look fine on day one, but it often loads slowly, cannot grow with you and looks like countless other sites. Ask whether SEO is built in from the start or sold as an expensive extra later. Ask to see the true total cost, including hosting, updates and anything else that appears after launch, because the headline price is not always the real one.

Be careful with a price that seems too good to be true, because it usually is. A very cheap site tends to mean a template with your logo dropped in, no thought about how it turns visitors into customers, and no support when something breaks. That is not a bargain if it never brings you a single enquiry.

Finally, make sure you are talking to someone who listens. A good website starts with understanding your business, not with picking a theme. If the conversation is all about design trends and nothing about what you actually need the site to achieve, that is a warning sign. We would rather ask a lot of questions up front and build the right thing than rush to a design that looks nice and does nothing.

WHY US

A small, senior team with no agency bloat

We will be straight with you, because it is the whole point of how we work. SearchSoda is a new agency. We do not have a decade of London case studies behind us or a wall of client logos. What we do have is focus, senior hands on every build, and a strong reason to make your website speak for us.

When you work with a big agency, the person who sells you the site is rarely the person who builds it. Your project gets passed down the line, and you end up talking to a manager who relays messages. With us, you deal directly with the people doing the work. Fewer layers, faster answers, and nothing lost along the way.

SearchSoda is led by its founder, Nicolas Comben, who spent more than ten years working on some of the biggest entertainment brands in the world, including Call of Duty, Warhammer 40,000, Sega, and Xbox, with credits on PlayStation and PC versions of these games. He has also worked with broadcast television channels Xpanded TV, and Playboy TV Chat, along with recruitment site ChatRecruit, and one of the UK's biggest fan and influencer platforms, SoSpoilt. That is a background in reaching huge audiences and holding their attention, and it is the same thinking we bring to a website for a shop in Camden or a firm in Holborn, at the right scale for you.

We are also built for how the web works now. We hand-code, we build for speed, and we use modern tools to move quickly and keep your costs down. If you want a website partner who is close to the work, honest about what is possible and genuinely invested in getting it right, that is us.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions about web design for London businesses

Our London website packages start at £1,250 for a Starter site of up to 5 pages, £2,500 for Advanced up to 12 pages, and £5,000 for a Growth site with a CMS and up to 30 pages. Ecommerce builds start from £5,000. Every price is fixed, with no hidden fees.

Your domain, your content and your accounts are always yours and stay in your name, and we never lock you onto a platform only we control or hold your site hostage. The website we build is licensed to you for your business: it is yours to run and host wherever you like, but the code, design and CMS are for that one business rather than for reuse on another. Our Launchpad websites are the exception, as they run on an ongoing subscription.

We hand-code our websites to your brief rather than assembling them from a bought theme or page builder. That keeps your site fast, free of the clutter templates carry, and designed around your business instead of forced into a generic layout. For larger sites we can add a content management system so you can edit content yourself.

Starter and Advanced builds usually take four to six weeks from brief to launch. Growth and ecommerce builds take six to ten weeks. We agree a fixed timeline at the start of the project and keep you updated as we go.

SEO is built into every site from the ground up. Clean page structure, sensible URLs, proper headings, schema markup and fast loading are all handled during the build. Your site launches ready to be found. For local searches in your part of London, pairing the site with Google Business Profile work and reviews is what drives visibility, and we can help with that too.

Yes, if you would like to. On our Growth and larger builds we include a content management system so you can edit text, swap images and add pages without touching code. If you would rather leave it to us, our care plans cover ongoing updates and changes.

Yes. We handle redesigns and rebuilds as well as brand-new sites. Before we start, we audit your current site so we can keep any search value it already has and carry it across to the new build rather than losing it.

Yes. We build Shopify stores for London retailers and brands, with custom theme design, your product catalogue set up, payment integration and ecommerce SEO built in from the start. Ecommerce builds start from £5,000, plus your Shopify subscription from £29 a month.

Every build includes a support period, from 30 days on a Starter site up to 90 days on a Growth build, so anything that needs adjusting is covered. After that, our optional care plans handle updates, hosting, security and ongoing changes, so your site stays fast and current without you having to think about it.

No. Your website is a fixed one-off price, agreed in writing before we start, with no setup charge and no long-term contract. The only ongoing costs are ones you choose, such as a care plan for support or a Shopify subscription for an online shop, and we are upfront about all of them from the beginning.
