Meta reaches more than three billion active users with targeting built around behaviour, interest and life events rather than search intent. Google Ads captures demand that exists. Meta creates demand with people who have not yet thought to search for what you offer. Used together they cover most of the customer journey.

Meta's algorithm today runs on broad audiences, strong creative and first-party data rather than the narrow manual targeting that used to work. Advantage+ campaigns now handle much of the optimisation automatically, which means the accounts that perform best are the ones feeding it clean data and genuinely good creative, not the ones micromanaging audience settings. Flat fee of £1,000 per month. No percentage of spend.

Worked Example

Where Meta cuts you off, and what is left showing

Meta cuts your caption at about 125 characters behind a See more, and the headline under the image disappears around 27. Type into the left and watch where the cut lands, then switch tabs to see the same words as a Google result, a LinkedIn post and a TikTok.

Meta truncates rather than rejects, so an overlong caption still runs and quietly loses its point behind a See more. The headline under the image is the one people forget, and it is the shortest field of the lot. Always check a platform preview before you spend money.

What We Do

How we build and manage Meta campaigns

Creative strategy, audience structure and consistent optimisation. In that order of importance.

Creative strategy first

We review or brief all creative before building campaigns. Meta advertising is won on creative quality. Technically perfect campaigns with weak creative do not convert.

Conversions API setup

Server-side tracking installed as standard to recover the 15 to 40 percent of conversion events that iOS blocking takes from Pixel-only tracking.

Full-funnel structure

Separate campaigns for cold audiences, warm retargeting and conversion-ready visitors. Each with distinct creative, objectives and budgets.

Creative rotation

Ad creative fatigues fast on Meta. We monitor frequency weekly and rotate before audience fatigue causes a visible performance drop.

Audience strategy

Advantage Plus prospecting with custom audiences built from your customer data. First-party data as the foundation.

Weekly optimisation

Performance reviewed weekly. Monthly report: spend, CPM, CTR, cost per result and ROAS.

The Process

From creative brief to live campaigns

We establish the creative and tracking before opening Ads Manager.

01

Creative strategy and tracking

Before Ads Manager opens, we establish who we are talking to and what we are showing them. Pixel audited or installed, Conversions API implemented, creative brief produced.

02

Full-funnel campaign build

Prospecting for cold audiences. Retargeting for people who visited your site or engaged with your content. Conversion campaigns for the warmest segment.

03

Ongoing management and refresh

Frequency and performance monitored weekly. New ad variations briefed in before fatigue causes a visible performance drop.

HOW META ADS WORK

The three funnel stages and what each one achieves

Meta advertising works in layers. Brands that run only conversion campaigns to cold audiences consistently underperform those that run a full-funnel approach.

Awareness cold audience
Top funnel
Reach and video views, building recognition
Consideration warm
Mid funnel
Traffic, engagement, lead gen
Retargeting site visitors
Re-engage
Highest ROAS of any campaign type
Conversion cold
Bottom funnel
Purchase, form fill, call

Source: Meta Ads Manager performance data. Retargeting campaigns consistently deliver 3 to 5x the ROAS of cold audience conversion campaigns.

Worth Understanding

How Meta Ads actually works now

Plenty of agencies are still running a targeting-first playbook on a platform that rewards creative and data instead.

Outdated approach (still used by many)
Current approach used by SearchSoda
Narrow interest stacking targeting small precise audiences
✓ SearchSodaBroader Advantage Plus audiences with creative doing the targeting work
Pixel-only tracking, missing up to 40% of conversions
✓ SearchSodaConversions API alongside Pixel for improved signal recovery
Optimising toward understated reported results
✓ SearchSodaBlended data approach that accounts for the attribution gap
Creative treated as secondary to targeting precision
✓ SearchSodaCreative-first strategy with regular testing and refresh cycles
Why SearchSoda

How we run Meta Ads differently

We will not launch weak creative

If the assets you have are not strong enough, we brief new ones rather than running campaigns we know will not perform in month one.

Proper funnel structure from day one

Cold prospecting, warm retargeting and conversion campaigns are separate with separate budgets. Single-campaign-for-everything is the most common problem in accounts we inherit.

Conversions API as standard

Every client gets server-side tracking implemented. Better data leads directly to better optimisation and better results.

Common Questions

Questions people ask us

Between £500 and £1,000 per month in ad spend is enough to test audiences and creative for a local service business or early-stage brand. Ecommerce brands typically need more to give the algorithm enough conversion data.
Yes, though it rewards a different approach than it used to. Broad audiences, strong creative and clean first-party data now matter more than granular manual targeting, and Meta's own Advantage+ tools handle a lot of the optimisation automatically. Accounts still running a narrow, hands-on-every-dial approach tend to be the ones underperforming.
We write all ad copy and produce the campaign strategy. For visuals and video, we work with assets you supply or advise on what to produce in-house.
Prospecting campaigns typically need creative refreshed every three to five weeks. We monitor frequency and brief new variations before fatigue causes a visible performance drop.
It depends on what you are selling. LinkedIn is stronger for job-title-based B2B. Meta works well for B2B where the audience is reachable by interest or behaviour.
Awareness, consideration and conversion campaigns. Type is determined by the objective and the audience temperature. Cold audiences need awareness before conversion campaigns work efficiently.
By cost per result where a result is the specific conversion event that matters to your business. Purchases and ROAS for ecommerce. Leads or booked calls for service businesses.
Yes. Meta builds awareness earlier in the decision process. Google captures people already searching. Used together they reduce cost per acquisition across both channels.
META ADVERTISING IN DEPTH

What separates Meta Ads campaigns that return money from ones that waste it

Meta Ads rewards a fundamentally different approach than it did several years ago. Signal loss from Apple's privacy changes reduced how much conversion data Meta's algorithm could see directly, which is exactly why broad targeting now outperforms narrow targeting and creative quality matters more than audience micromanagement. That shift is old news by now, but plenty of accounts still haven't adapted. The best-performing Meta accounts today use broad audiences, lean on strong creative to do the targeting work, and use Advantage+ features selectively rather than switching everything over and hoping for the best.

Creative is the most important variable in a Meta Ads account. Two campaigns with identical budgets, targeting and objectives will produce dramatically different results if one has strong creative and one does not. The creative needs to stop the scroll in the first two seconds, communicate the core offer or value proposition clearly without sound (since most people watch with sound off), and give a clear reason to act. Video consistently outperforms static images when the first two seconds are compelling, but a well-designed static card will outperform mediocre video every time.

Retargeting is consistently the highest-return campaign type available in Meta Ads. People who have visited your website, engaged with your content or watched a significant portion of your video are dramatically more likely to convert than cold audiences. A well-structured retargeting campaign with the right message at each stage of the funnel, coordinating with prospecting campaigns to create a coherent experience, will produce ROAS of three to five times what cold audience campaigns achieve.

Attribution is a genuine challenge in Meta Ads. The default seven-day click, one-day view attribution window credits Meta with conversions that often happened for other reasons. We use a combination of Meta's attribution tools, Google Analytics and manual cohort analysis to understand the true contribution of Meta spend to revenue, which gives a more accurate picture of actual return than Meta's self-reported numbers.

We manage Meta Ads for businesses across the UK, including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol and Glasgow. We work across ecommerce, lead generation and brand awareness objectives, tailoring the campaign structure and creative approach to the specific goal and audience for each client.
