Influencer marketing works when the creator has genuine authority with the audience you need to reach and when the partnership feels authentic rather than transactional. It fails when brands pay for follower counts rather than engagement rates, or choose creators based on aesthetic rather than audience demographics.

We manage influencer campaigns from creator identification through to performance tracking. Every creator we recommend is assessed on engagement rate, audience demographics, content quality and brand fit. Not just follower count.

INFLUENCER MARKETING IN DEPTH

Why micro-influencers consistently outperform celebrities for most brand objectives

The influencer marketing landscape has changed significantly since its early days as a celebrity endorsement channel repackaged for social media. The data on influencer performance now clearly shows that for most brand objectives, micro-influencers (typically defined as creators with 10,000 to 100,000 followers) generate higher engagement rates, more authentic audience trust and better commercial outcomes per pound spent than macro-influencers or celebrities with millions of followers.

The reason is audience composition. A celebrity with two million followers has an audience that is geographically and demographically diverse, with varying levels of genuine interest in the celebrity's opinions on any specific product category. A food blogger with 25,000 followers who posts exclusively about London restaurants has an audience that is overwhelmingly interested in exactly that: London restaurants. When that blogger recommends a specific product or venue, the recommendation reaches people who are precisely the target customer and who trust the recommendation because they trust the creator's judgment in that specific domain.

Engagement rate is the most reliable performance metric for evaluating an influencer's commercial suitability. An account with 500,000 followers and an engagement rate of 0.2 percent is reaching fewer engaged people per post than an account with 50,000 followers and an engagement rate of 4 percent. Engagement rate declines predictably as follower count increases, which is why reach alone is not an adequate basis for influencer selection.

The brief and the creative brief matter as much as the influencer selection for campaign performance. An influencer given a restrictive script that constrains their natural voice will produce content that their audience reads as advertising rather than recommendation, which dramatically reduces its effectiveness. The most effective influencer content is typically produced when the influencer is given clear information about the product, the key messages that need to be communicated and the mandatory disclosures required, but genuine creative freedom in how they communicate those messages.

We manage influencer marketing campaigns for UK brands across every sector, including businesses based in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol and throughout the country. We source and vet influencers, manage the brief and contract process, oversee content production and reporting.
