CRO// Conversion rate optimisation that makes your traffic work harder

Getting traffic is one thing. Converting it is another. CRO identifies exactly why visitors are leaving without enquiring, and fixes it.

A site converting at two percent that you push to four percent doubles your revenue without spending another pound on traffic. Most businesses focus almost entirely on driving more traffic and almost nothing on what happens when that traffic arrives.

Our CRO service combines session recordings, heatmaps and Analytics 4 data to identify exactly where visitors drop off and why. We then design, build and test improvements based on evidence, not opinion.

Worked Example

The same page, before and after. Drag the line.

Not a redesign. Same brand, same fonts, same photography budget. Seven navigation items became four, six form fields became two, and “Welcome to” became a sentence that says what the business does and where. Conversion work is mostly removal, which is why it costs less than a rebuild and why it is the first thing we look at.

Both versions are mock-ups of an invented business rather than screenshots of a client. Every change is annotated with what it is for. No uplift percentage is claimed anywhere, deliberately — that depends entirely on your traffic and your market, and the only honest way to know is to measure your own.

What We Do

The CRO process from audit to tested improvement

Evidence-based optimisation across every stage of the conversion funnel.

Analytics audit

GA4 setup verified, conversion events configured correctly, funnel analysis conducted. We start by ensuring the data is accurate before optimising from it.

Session recording and heatmaps

User behaviour on key pages recorded and analysed. Heatmaps identify where attention goes and where visitors abandon.

Conversion audit

Every step in the conversion funnel reviewed. Friction points identified and prioritised by likely impact.

A/B testing

Hypotheses built from the research, tested with statistically significant samples. Winners implemented.

Analytics and reporting

Custom GA4 dashboards covering the metrics that connect to revenue. Monthly performance review.

Implementation

Winning test variants implemented with precise developer specifications where development work is required.

The Process

From audit to tested, measurable improvement

Research first, hypotheses second, testing third.

01

Analytics audit and research

GA4 verified, session recordings reviewed, heatmaps analysed. Produces a prioritised list of where conversion is being lost.

02

Hypothesis and test design

Each identified issue paired with a specific hypothesis and a proposed test. Tests designed to isolate the variable being measured.

03

Testing, analysis and implementation

Tests run to statistical significance. Results analysed. Winners implemented. Process repeated on the next priority.

THE CONVERSION CASE

What a 1% conversion rate improvement is actually worth

Most businesses focus on getting more traffic. CRO focuses on what happens to the traffic you already have. The return is immediate and applies to every visitor.

Why SearchSoda

CRO based on evidence, not opinion

Research before recommendations

We do not tell you what to change without understanding why visitors are not converting. Session recordings and analytics data come before any recommendation.

Every change is tested

We do not implement improvements and assume they worked. Every change is tested against a control until statistical significance is reached.

Focused on revenue, not metrics

Bounce rate and time on page are reported if relevant. The number we focus on is conversion rate and revenue per visitor.

CRO IN DEPTH

Why most businesses focus on getting more traffic when the bigger opportunity is converting the traffic they have

The average ecommerce conversion rate in the UK is around 1.5 to 2 percent. That means for every hundred people who visit a typical online store, 98 or 99 leave without buying. The default response to this is to get more traffic: more ad spend, more SEO, more social media. The less obvious but often higher-return response is to ask why 98 percent of visitors are not converting and to fix it. Even a modest improvement in conversion rate has a larger impact on revenue than an equivalent increase in traffic, because it applies to all your existing traffic simultaneously.

CRO is empirical, not aesthetic. It is not about making the website look better according to someone's taste. It is about forming hypotheses about why visitors are not converting, testing those hypotheses with real user data, and implementing changes that are proven to work before they go site-wide. A button colour that converts better is a button colour that converts better regardless of whether the designer preferred the original.

The starting point for any CRO engagement is a thorough audit of the existing conversion funnel using both quantitative data (where are people dropping off, what are the exit rates at each stage, what do heatmaps show about scroll depth and click patterns) and qualitative insight (what do real users say about the experience, what objections come up in sales calls, what questions does the support team receive most frequently). The audit identifies the highest-use opportunities before any testing begins.

A/B testing is only one tool in the CRO toolkit, and it requires sufficient traffic volume to produce statistically significant results within a reasonable timeframe. For lower-traffic sites, we use expert review and best-practice implementation rather than A/B testing, because running an inconclusive test for six months is worse than making an informed change based on established principles.

We provide CRO services for businesses across the UK, including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol and throughout the country. Engagements typically start with a CRO audit (from £750) followed by an ongoing retainer for testing and implementation, or a one-time project for businesses with specific conversion problems to solve.
